As part of their commitment to the local area, Beacon Commodities have continued their support of local charities through their Suffolk Community Foundation Grant and are a main sponsor of Cycle Together which is raising money for the Drinks Trust in memory of John Osborne.
Bows & Arrows
Tommy was lucky to visit Bows & Arrows, a group of Suffolk nurseries that Beacon donated to in 2025.
He went to meet Anne Denny at their Gainsborough nursery which is located in one of the most deprived wards in Ipswich. Bows & Arrows provide cooking sessions to young parents and their children supporting better, healthier and more affordable eating habits, often using typical food bank items. Anne Denny was truly passionate about her cause, fighting the incomprehensible thought that the cost of food has left simple hearty meals unobtainable for many families.
The session was one of pure joy with parents and children enjoying the preparation and cooking of a healthy meal that without Bows & Arrows support wouldn’t have existed.
St Augustine’s Church’s free 2025 Christmas Party
Beacon’s grant making programme is heavily geared towards children’s charities and the provision of food. Along similar lines, Beacon also donated to St Augustine’s Church’s free 2025 Christmas Party at Lindbergh Road in Ipswich. Many people on the Lindbergh estate struggle with the daily costs of just existing so the Church tries to provide events to give anyone living in the area (whether of any faith or none) the opportunity to feel that someone cares and is there for them whoever they are and whatever their circumstances. Previously this event was sponsored for three years by Ipswich Borough Council but this funding has been removed and therefore Beacon agreed to cover the full cost of the party.
Grants were also provided to Home-Start in Suffolk (HSiS) to deliver Mums in Mind (MiM) and Innov8.
Mums in Mind (MiM)
The Mums in Mind was a 10-week programme supporting parents experiencing mild-to-moderate perinatal mental health challenges. Many parents face barriers to accessing traditional mental health support or are reluctant to seek clinical help. This programme offered an early, preventative approach, creating a safe, nurturing space to connect, learn, and build confidence. Each session was facilitated by trained staff and supported by volunteers with lived experience. The programme included infant massage to support bonding, nutrition and wellbeing advice, peer-led discussions to reduce isolation, and signposting to additional support. Grounded in the Five Principles of Perinatal Peer Support, the sessions are inclusive, accessible, and designed to complement NHS services.
Innov8
Innov8 provides bursaries to parents who cannot obtain Government funding for alternative education provision. Their students may have been permanently or temporarily excluded from school for disruption or have other behavioural issues. Some of their children have dysfunctional family lives and many are from underprivileged backgrounds. Their students are currently 11-16 year olds and mainly live in East Suffolk. The grant from Beacon helped fund children on their waiting list.
Cycle Together for the Drink’s Trust
The Drinks Trust is a trade charity providing financial assistance, emotional support, and opportunity for growth to drinks industry people.
The Trust aims to alleviate hardship, improve the wellbeing of our colleagues, and support their professional development. This is help the hospitality trade need more than ever in the current circumstances.
On 1st October 2026, drinks and hospitality professionals will come together for a moving and meaningful one-day charity bike ride from London to Brighton in memory of much-loved industry colleague, John Osborne, raising funds for The Drinks Trust. With many years’ experience leading drinks businesses, John was a highly respected figure within the industry, a keen cyclist and a passionate supporter of The Drinks Trust. Colleagues across the drinks industry were deeply saddened when John passed away at the beginning of 2026.
Beacon have agreed to be one of the main sponsors for this great cause. The fact that it allows Tommy to be a support driver and not a cyclist obviously had no bearing at all …
